Murdered man from Mobile

Big question still ‘Who did it?’

A murder victim found in the Blue Mountain community has been identified as Jeffrey Carey, 30, of Mobile.

The skeletal remains were found Sept. 18 on hunting land by a local resident riding a four-wheeler. There was a bullet hole in the skull and the head had been separated from the rest of the body, but according to Investigator Vergil Chapman of the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department, it is believed animals scattered the remains.

Carey’s remains were identified using dental records from Louisiana, where Carey had apparently had gold caps placed on his front teeth.

Carey’s family, who also resides in Mobile, has been notified, but no other information on the victim has been released.

No arrest has been made in the case and Chief Deputy Donnie Arnold said no other information is currently being released by the department or the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, which is also working on the case.
