Rabid bat
confirmed

On Friday, Oct. 3 a bat was found in an area adjacent to the Harper Head Start building in Jackson. The bat was tested by the Alabama of Public Health’s Branch Laboratory. On Oct. 6, the laboratory notified the Clarke County Health Department that the bat tested positive for rabies.

When bats become hurt or sick, they become unable to fly and then fall to the ground. If you see a bat crawling, flopping or lying on the ground, do not touch it or pick it up.

If you have any questions or concerns about rabies, contact the Clarke County Health Department at 251-275-4177 or your local veterinarian.
