Betty Gilmore Elizabeth S. "Betty" Gilmore, 81, of Jackson died Oct. 3, 2003 at Huntsville Hospital after a brief illness. She was born March 4, 1922 in Fairview, MT, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. T.C. Selvig and was reared in Harmon, MN. She graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. She had worked for Parke-Davis in Detroit, MI as a chemist. She married the late E.F. "Tony" Gilmore in 1946 and they lived in Demopolis before moving to Jackson in 1949 where she made her home until she moved to Somerby’s in Huntsville this past December. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson where she was active in women’s work and served as a deacon. She was active in community life during her earlier years and enjoyed playing bridge, visiting neighbors and friends. Survivors include one son, Eugene Fontaine "Sonny" Gilmore, Birmingham; one daughter, Ann G. Coffey, Huntsville; five grandchildren, Haver Gilmore, Gene Gilmore, both of Birmingham, Mary Elizabeth Comulada, Huntsville, Ginny Coffey, Birmingham, Sarah Beth Coffey, Chicago, IL; one great-grandson, Gavin Comulada. The service was held Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Rhett G. Payne III of Meridian, MS officiating assisted by Rev. Tom Lewis. Burial was in the Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson. Lathan Funeral Home directed. The family suggests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, the Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega; or a favorite charity. Active pallbearers were Oscar Comulada, Gene Gilmore, Bill Payne, Bill Johnston, Jim Dixon, Leroy Mitchell and Joe Skipper. Honorary pallbearers were Rhett Payne Jr., Bob Harper, Jim Bailey, Joe McCorquodale and Neal Bradley.
