Ramsey-Davis say vows
Sept. 6 in Jackson church


Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Scott Ramsey

Jamie Leigh Davis and Samuel Scott Ramsey were united in marriage on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Jackson.

Dr. Tim Huie of Jackson and the Rev. Marty Jordan of Huntsville officiated the 3 p.m. ceremony.

Parents of the couple are Jim and Debby Davis of Jackson and Bill and Terri Ramsey of Enterprise.

Sconces on the doors to the entrance of the church held arrangements of pink and white snapdragons, pink lilies, white cremons, pink larkspur, pink roses and Queen Ann’s lace. Spring Rye garland was draped over the front doors.

The foyer table held an epergne of mixed pink and white flowers. A pink rose was placed on the bride’s book table.

Matching arrangements in stone urns with flowers similar to those on the entrance doors were placed in the choir loft.

Family pews were marked with bouquets of pink flowers tied with white tulle.

Chuck Affholter of Tuscaloosa provided piano selections as guests were being seated. Debbie Sullivan sang "The Prayer" and Preston Armistead, uncle of the bride, accompanied himself on a guitar and sang, "I Will Be Here" during the lighting of the unity candle. Terry Nobles of Montgomery piped "Amazing Grace" on the bag pipes to honor the memory of the deceased grandparents of the bridal couple. He also piped music on the lawn of the church prior to the ceremony as guests were arriving.

The bride wore an off-the-shoulder A-line gown of white bridal satin with a chapel length train. Tiny rows of beading accented the shoulders and were repeated at the empire waist and around the hem and train of the dress. The bride’s fingertip veil was of white sheer tulle attached to a comb. She carried a French hand-tied bouquet of white gardenias, white roses and stephanotis tied with sheer white ribbon with pearl pins.

Matron of honor was Tracy Martin of Mobile and maid of honor was Courtney Davis of Jackson, both sisters of the bride.

Bridesmaids were Lisa Everhart of Mobile, Nikki Hoven of Jackson, Jessica Jordan of Huntsville and Amber McNider, cousin of the bride, of Auburn.

The bride’s attendants wore black satin A-line dresses with flared skirts, which extended into trains. They carried French hand-tied bouquets of mixed pink roses surrounded by miniature pink calla lilies. The stems were wrapped with pink sheer ribbon and pearl pins.

Doug Cole of Birmingham served as the groom’s best man.

Groomsmen were Matt Davis of Mobile, cousin of the bride, Jeremy Wiley of College Station, Texas, Kevin Grondin of Atlanta, Ga., Tremaine Martin of Mobile, brother-in-law of the bride, and Justin Powell of Mobile.

Ushers were Jesse Creel, Kevin Creel, cousins of the bride and Josh Johnson, all of Tuscaloosa.

Directing the wedding were Laura Binion and Nancy Spence.

Reception

A reception was held in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church.

Ferns, ficus and palm trees decorated the room. Crystal vases held arrangements of pink mixed flowers and were centered on the guests’ tables. An outdoor garden statue held pink rose petals to be thrown at the couple.

The bride’s three-tiered square wedding cake, made by the her mother, was placed on a square silver plateau and topped with an arrangement of pink and white roses and lilies. The tiers were made of Italian cream, red velvet and strawberry cream frosted with fluffy cream cheese frosting. Serving the cake were Carolyn Slayton and Geneva York, both of Jackson.

The groom’s table featured a sport’s theme with his love for baseball, basketball and golf carried out on a two-tiered "Fun Fetti" cake. The North Carolina Tar Heels logo and miniature frosted golf balls, footballs and baseballs were nestled in the corners of the square cake. An arrangement of mixed flowers was placed in a vase painted to resemble a baseball.

Janet McCants and Joy Rikard, both of Jackson, served mock champagne and fruit slush punch from crystal punch bowls.

Two silver tubs held bottled Cokes, strawberry sodas and root beer.

Guests were served a variety of heavy hor d’oeuvres, fruit and vegetable trays, and an assortment of finger foods.

Directing the reception were Amy Burge and Betty Jo Rikard, both of Jackson. Hostesses were Brenda Bass, Kay Crosby, Gina Creel, Nancy Gill, LaVonne May, Donnette Mullinix and Anna Kate Mullinix, all of Jackson.

After honeymooning in Jamaica, the couple will be making their home in Montgomery.

After Rehearsal Dinner

The groom’s parents entertained the wedding party and guests with a "North Carolina barbeque" in the Christian Life Center of the First United Methodist Church in Jackson on Friday, Sept. 5

A video was shown chronicling the lives of the couple.

Bridesmaids’ Luncheon

The bridal party and out-of-town guests were entertained with a brunch on Saturday, Sept. 6 at the home of Debbie Reid.

Hosting the event were Laura Binion, Gina Creel, Nancy Gill and Debbie Reid, all of Jackson.
