The Coffeeville High School Panthers scored 28 first half point as they rolled to a 50-12 homecoming win over the Pirates of Fruitdale last Friday night.

“We are just having fun right now,” Panther head coach Robin Tyra said.

The Panthers took the field with just 14 players, as three left the team last week.

“I wouldn’t trade my group for anyone elses,” Tyra said.

Senior Timothy Washington rushed for two scores, caught TD passes of 22 and 14-yards, had two interceptions and caused a fumble. Plus he had 23 tackles in the game. “I would say about 90 percent of those stops were primary tackles,” Tyra added.

Washington finished with 115 rushing yards on eight carries.

Sophomore quarterback Michael Thomas added 181 yards rushing on eight attempts with touchdown runs of 50 yards and 53-yards. He finished 6-of-12 for 90 yards passing with two scoring tosses.

“Michael has taken his game to the next level,” Tyra said. “He is playing as well as anyone in the area.”

Fullback Dale Slater chipped in a 4-yard TD run and a pair of 2-point conversions for the Panthers.

Fruitdale’s points came on a 70-yard halfback pass from Nick Baggett to Colby Miller and a 10-yard run by Brian Johnson.

Coffeeville (5-2, 5-0 in 1A Region 1) visits Millry with a region championship hanging in the balanace.

‘It is going to be something else,” Tyra said. “They have a very good football team.”

Game time on Wildcat Hill is 7 p.m.
