RR crossing signal OK’d in Fulton
By Ross Wood

The Fulton Town Council Tuesday approved an agreement with ethe Alabama Department of Transportation to place railroad crossing signals and lights at the south crossing in town.

The town will have to do some culvert work in preparation for the job.

“The work will be finished within eight months of the agreement,” Mayor Mike Norris said.

The council also passed a resolution to maintain the crossing once the signals are in place.

Norris reported to the group that sidewalks would be poured this week, along the route from the school to the bridge.

“The weather has put them behind,” he said.

He also told the council that a new grass trimmer had been purchased to replace one that would have required extensive repairs. The cost of the equipment was $459. He also noted that new help with the grass cutting has been doing a good job.

Council member Danny Bedwell noted that several ditches in and around town had standing water in them, and that they needed to be cleaned out.

He was asked to check on prices to get them cleared.

Bedwell also asked about the possibility of putting a batting cage up for area youth to use, instead of having to go out of town.

Norris agreed it was a good idea and asked that he check into prices on that. “The work on the ball field will be starting soon,” Norris said. “There is a lot of initial dozier work that needs to be done, for the work to progress.”

Councilman Paul Newton inquired about installing street lights in various places, as well as getting the street swept in the downtown area.

Norris said the streets would be swept.

Newton also inquired about a work truck for town employees and Norris said he was already working on that project.

The council heard from council member Jennifer Stephens about purchasing a clock for the gazebo area in town. She had gotten prices on various different ones and the council decided to look at the matter at the next meeting.

Council member Kim Averitt reported that the color for the crossing bridge on the sidewalk project would be a dark gray brick.

The next meeting will be May 10.
