Rice

Gaines Rice, 77, of St. Stephens died Sept. 14, 2006 at a local hospital in Clarke County.

He was born Nov. 5, 1928. He was a native of Clarke County. For many years he was a co-owner of P & R Electric in Jackson. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He also enjoyed pitching in the "Farmer's League" in his early years.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Louise Rice, St. Stephens; one son, Kenneth Ray Minor, Mobile; three daughters, Beverly Widner, Coffeeville, Diane Jones, Mobile, Shirley Minor Phillips, Daphne; one sister, Wilda Johnson, Jackson; five grandchildren; special friend, Charlie Norris.

The service was Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church St. Stephens with Rev. Gary Patrick officiating. Burial was in the Pine Crest Cemetery on Commerce Street in Jackson. St. Stephens Funeral Home directed.

Active pallbearers were Charles Rice, Kenner Rice, Jack Johnson, Sam Johnson, Kelly Floyd Sullivan and John Weaver.

Holt

Francisca Lopez Holt, 31, of Thomasville died Sept. 9, 2006 in an automobile accident in Texas. She was born Aug. 9, 1975.

Survivors include her husband, Courtney L. Holt, Thomasville; one son, Christopher Medellin, San Diego, Calif.; one daughter, Alyssa E. Oliphant, Virginia Beach, Va.; parents, Jovita and Francisco Lopez, Oliqondones, New Mexico.

The service was Sept. 15 at Thomasville Church of God in Christ with Elder Jimmy Allen officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Thomasville Memorial Funeral Home directed.

Jackson

Selia Jackson, newborn, was born and died Sept. 16, 2006 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include her mother, Cecile Jackson; grandparents, Walter and Lucille Jackson, Alma.

A graveside service was Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. at Rodger Temple A.O.H. Church Cemetery in Gainestown. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directed.

Pernell

Carrie Mae MacMillian Pernell, 72, of Jackson died Sept. 12, 2006 at Providence Hospital in Mobile.

She was born July 28, 1934. She was a member of the Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson where she served as a deaconess and matron counselor.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Mack Pernell, Jackson; four sons, Byron Pernell, Tacoma, Wash., Keith Pernell, Mack Pernell, Merlyn Pernell, all of Jackson; two daughters, Freda Allen, Jackson, Tangila Hurst, Monroeville; one brother, Joseph Jones, Chicago, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

The service was Sept. 18 at 12 p.m. at the Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson. Burial was in the St. Peter Cemetery in Allen. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directed.

Shamburger

Willie Shamburger, 65, of Thomasville died Sept. 10, 2006 at Providence Hospital in Mobile.

He was born Oct. 10, 1940. He was a retired carpenter. He was instrumental in the construction of the New Thomasville Church of God in Christ which was completed in 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Shamburger, Thomasville; one son, Larry Shamburger, Thomasville; three daughters, Debra Shamburger, Yolander (Roderick) Pritchett, all of Thomasville, Constance Brock, Demopolis; two brothers, Marion (Dorothy) Shamburger, Jessie L. Shamburger, Thomasville; two sisters, Louise (John) Woods, Pearl (Frank) Lewis, Thomasville; seven grandchildren.

The service was Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Thomasville Church of God in Christ with Elder Jimmy Allen officiating. Burial was in the Thomasville Church of God in Christ Cemetery. Thomasville Memorial Funeral Home directed.

Wilson

Gertrude Wilson, 83, of Jackson died Sept. 15, 2006 at her residence.

She was born Aug. 15, 1923. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include five sons, Tommie Lee Wilson, Jackson, Elbert Wilson, Brooklyn, N.Y., Robert Wilson, Long Beach, Calif., Jimmie Lee Wilson, Talladega, Johnny Lee Wilson, Foley; one daughter, Ella McKenzie, Jackson; one sister, Lizzie Anderson, Mobile; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 22 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home. The service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Jackson.
