C-M Gas studying pay scale Clarke-Mobile Counties Gas District's ACT Management Team, Al Bean, C.J. Arnold and Tommy Horsley, gave CMC Gas board members several updates on improvements they had proposed for the company. This was their first board meeting since taking over the management of the company. Bean told board members he was waiting for a compensation survey from Auburn University in order to proceed with adopting a salary scale. Employee representatives have been asking about the new pay scale for several months and had been told work would begin on it soon. Bean was more specific, explaining, "We have looked at all the employees and we look to do a job description, but we are looking for this survey from Auburn University. This way we can see what other gas companies are paying and make sure we are in line with them. We want to put everyone in a range and classification, get the job descriptions done and then decide on a scale."
Wilcox interconnect Work is progressing on the Wilcox and CMC Gas interconnect. Once completed, the interconnect will provide an alternate source of gas, should it be needed. Plans are to have the two lines connect at Weyerhaeuser, but if that can't be arranged, Arnold told board members they will run about two miles of new line, at a cost of about $500,000, in order to connect with Wilcox.
Construction projects Horsley said that he and McKee and Associates, the architect firm designing the new office building in Jackson, had been discussing the new facility. It will be constructed behind the current building. They are discussing how the old building could be utilized. "We'll bring the board several options for the current and new building later," he said. There are plans to enlarge the office in Thomasville to make more room for appliance sales and a new building is being sought for the office in Grove Hill.
Other business Arnold gave board members an update on the implementation of the new financial and accounting system for CMC Gas. Bean reported on the hedge committee's activities. He told them he hoped a risk management policy would be ready for their review by the next meeting. As of Aug. 1, LA Gas was being supplied by Tennessee Energy Acquisition Corporation. It was approved that Horsley would replace former interim manager Jim Hall on the LA Gas Board of Directors. Boan Contracting was awarded the bid for relocating lines at the Mobile River. Their bid for the project was $531,460.
The Lewis Creek and Stave Creek line relocation projects are expected to begin Aug. 21. A cost of living compensation increase was approved for CMC Gas retirees and eligible beneficiaries.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
