Clarke one of 5 Alabama communities to win award

The Clarke County Development Foundation was awarded for its community and economic initiatives recently, one of five communities in the state so honored. Shown at the presentation in Orange Beach are, from left, Tuscon Roberts, president-elect, Southern Economic Develop-ment Council; Steve Green, vice chairman of the Clarke County Development Foundation; Debra Bolen, executive director of the foundation; Sarah Miller, Clarke County Career/Tech Director; Linda Deas, Clarke County School Improvement Coordinator; and John Hanson, executive director, Economic Development Association of Alabama.
Clarke County's community and economic development work has been recognized along with four other communities in the state.

The award was presented to the Clarke County Development Foundation at the recent Economic Development Association of Alabama conference in Orange Beach.

The foundation won the award in part because of its series of roundtable discussions between business and education leaders. The roundtables were said to be successful in focusing on community needs and proposing solutions.

Clarke County was the smallest of the five communities honored. However, all competed on the same point system. The others included Jefferson County, Cullman County and the cities of Mobile and Opelika.
