Big drug bust in Jackson
'Round-up' results in several arrests in Depot neighborhood

Extra efforts are being put forth to rid the Depot area in Jackson of drug traffic. A good many complaints have been made by residents of the community and someone shot at Jackson police officers in that area a few weeks ago.

Patroling has increased and when area lawmen went to the community to serve warrants they were aided with air support from a helicopter of the Alabama Army National Guard Security and Support Detachment, formerly known as RAID.

On Aug. 15 Task Force One commander Michael Hunt was in the Depot area and observed Tanya Brown pick up a known drug user/dealer. Hunt called for assistance from Agent Lem DuBose.

Brown attenpted to elude the agents by turning onto Avenue A off East Boyles Street and then parked beside an abandoned house.

The suspects were apprehended there. A search of the suspects and vehicle revealed what was believed to be crack cocaine.

Brown and Cheryl Jones Simon were charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cedric Garraway was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and he was served with a warrant from Task Force One for unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.

A "Warrant Round-Up" was conducted Aug. 17 in Jackson, with heavy concentration in the Depot area. The warrants served were based on undercover drug operations.

Eight warrant arrests and five additional arrests were made.

Agencies invovled, in addition to Task Force One and the National Guard included Jackson Police Department, Alcohol Beverage Control Board and Clarke County Sheriff's Department.

Michael T. Johnson of Jackson was charged with unlawful distribution of controlled substance.

Kelvin Jermaine Jordan of Jackson was charged with unlawful distribution of controlled substance.

Edward Larry McReynolds of Jackson was charged with unlawful distribution of controlled substance.

Bryce Kendrick Woods of Jackson was charged with two counts unlawful distribution of controlled substance.

Marcus Terrill West of Jackson was charged with unlawful distribution of controlled substance.

Antonio Eugene Ezell of Jackson was charged with unlawful distribution of controlled substance.

JoEllen Gates of Jackson was charged with unlawful possession of controlled substance.

Darnell Wilson of Jackson was charged with unlawful possession of controlled substance.

Quinton Crowell of Jackson was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, second degree.
