Catherine Cope's art featured Sept. 10 in Montgomery gallery

Catherine Cope with 'Spirit of New Orleans' painting.
Catherine Hare Cope of Montgomery, a Clarke County native who grew up in Grove Hill, is an award-winning artist who paints in multiple mediums, sculpts, and does fine crafts with skill and enthusiasm.

Her work will be featured Sunday, Sept. 10 during Montgomery's weekend-long "Art Trek," an annual open house of Montgomery art galleries.

The reception will be from 1 until 5 p.m. at the SAC Gallery, 2001 Mulberry Street in Montgomery.

Her resistance to limit mediums or styles gives collectors a fresh surprise every time they look at her art. As always, Catherine's exhibit is again shot through with her personality-colorful, spontaneous, textured, and full of feeling.

"My style, my medium? I like it all. I cannot-I don't know why-just cannot place limitations on medium, style, and theme. Art is still showing me so much about how I see life and my openness to its complexities. Every day, every body, every subject is a wonder to me."

A Clarke County High School graduate, Cope's secondary education and career were business administration and marketing. Her art education includes Auburn University in Montgomery, Huntingdon College, British Studies Program, Scottsdale AZ Artists' School, and a yearly selection of several well-known painting workshops.

She has taught sculpture at Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope. She paints weekly as a member of the Capital City Artists.
