Routine traffic stop leads to arrests in Thomasville

A traffic stop in Thomasville led to the arrest of the driver and passenger.

On Aug. 25 Officer James R. Jones of Thomasville Police Department pulled a vehicle over for speeding on Gates Drive. He detected the scent of marijuana.

The driver, Elijah Jones, was wanted for failure to pay on criminal trespassing by Marengo County Sheriff's Department and was arrested.

Then the passenger, a juvenile, was checked because the marijuana scent seemed to be coming from him. As he got out of the vehicle a small marijuana cigarette and pistol were found on the seat.

The juvenile was charged with resisting arrest, carrying a pistol without a permit and possession of marijuana.

Other arrests reported by the Thomasville Police Department include:

Donnie Gordan Stafford, violation of prohibition law, arrested Aug. 21;

Andretta Leigh Jones, failure to appear on driving without first obtaining a license, arrested Aug. 23;

Rodney Sheppard, disorderly conduct, arrested Aug. 25;

Juvenile, disorderly conduct, arrested Aug. 25;

Freddie Witherspoon, theft of property, third degree, arrested Aug. 25;

Johnnie Latrum Packer, driving while license suspended, warrant, arrested Aug. 26;

Jimmy Lee Kirby, DUI, carrying a pistol without a permit, violation of prohibition, arrested Aug. 27.

Thomasville Police Department responded to four traffic accidents, responded to 28 complaints, issued 25 traffic tickets and three warning tickets and performed 170 special details during the week of Aug. 21-27.
