Dove season opens Sept. 16

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources reminds dove hunters in the north region of the state that opening day of the split season is September 16. An incorrect season start date printed in an unofficial commercial hunting and fishing magazine may have some hunters questioning the correct opening date. The correct date of September 16 was published in the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources official regulation publication, the 2006-2007 Hunting and Fishing Digest and on the department's Web site at www.outdooralabama.com. As a reminder, the department's official magazine is Outdoor Alabama, published five times a year.

"It is unfortunate that the opening dove season date was printed incorrectly in another magazine, but it should be a reminder to all hunters to consult Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources publications for official seasons, bag limits and hunting regulations," said Chief of Law Enforcement Allan Andress. "By using these official resources, hunters can be assured they are hunting during the legal season."

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama's natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Parks, State Lands, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
