Grants for nonprofit groups, schools available from Community Foundation

The Community Foundation of South Alabama announces the beginning of its 2007 grant cycle beginning Oct. 1. There are two main initiatives, Education and the Arts.

Approximately $160,000 will be available; $80,000 for each initiative. In 2008, the grant committee may revise its initiatives to focus on other areas of community interest.

These grant initiatives are open to qualified nonprofits with an IRS 501 (c)(3) tax determination and to government agencies in all eight counties The Community Foundation serves, including Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe, and Washington Counties.

Application deadlines for the two main grants are:

Oct. 2, 2006 Education (awarded in December)

Feb. 1, 2007 Arts (awarded in April)

Applications are also being accepted for smaller grants from the Field of Interest Funds that target specific areas of interest to donors. The deadline for receipt of these proposals is Nov. 1, 2006 at 4:30 p.m.

Please visit www.communityendowment.com to review the criteria for each grant. You can download the grant application on the website or call the office in Mobile at 251-438-5591. Grants are drawn from the Community Endowment to which the public donates through the Sustaining Membership program.
