Students participate in 'Community Read'

Wilson Hall Middle School students in Mrs. Annell Gordon's eighth grade reading class are participating in the Community Read sponsored by both the Grove Hill and Thomasville Arts Council. This year's selection is Rocket Boys by Alabama resident Homer Hickam. When the book was adapted for a movie, it was retitled October Sky, which is an anagram of the original title.

These eighth graders have researched such topics as Sputnik, coal-mining, NASA, Werner Von Braun, and model rocketry in their efforts to more fully understand the memoir.

Many of them plan to participate in the model rocket workshop that will be announced at a later date and in the community book discussion on Oct. 17 at the Grove Hill Town Hall.

For more information on how to participate in the community book read, contact Annell Gordon at 251-275-3353 or Amy Davis at 251-275-4300.
