Clarke County High School is the home to five new faculty members. Three are coaches, one is in the special education department and another teaches reading and history.

Johnson

Tori Johnson earned her degree in physical education from the University of West Alabama. She is the Lady Bulldogs' new basketball and softball coach. She also teaches health and physical education. She is taking over where Coach Micoe Cotton, former basketball coach, and Coach Melanie Baxter, former softball coach, left off.

"I am excited about this year," said Johnson. "I am looking forward to seeing what this year has in store for the Lady Bulldogs."

With experience from Huntingdon College, University of West Alabama, Lamar Academy and Holtville High, the Silas native definitely knows her stuff when it comes to basketball and softball.

"I want my players and students to work hard, play hard and learn how to work hard as a team," said Johnson.

Davis

Kendric Davis comes to CCHS from Waynesboro, Miss. with a Bachelor's of Arts in Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Studies and certification to teach health and physical education. Davis is the new boys' basketball coach, health and physical education teacher.

After playing and coaching college ball with Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., Davis moved to Istrouma, La. and coached for two seasons at Istrouma Middle Magnet and Istrouma High School. From there, he became the head basketball coach, assistant baseball coach and assistant football coach at Baker High School in Louisiana for two years.

"I found out about the job here from Coach [Micoe] Cotton," said Davis. "He was my basketball coach when I was in high school and recommended that I check CCHS out."

"Building team chemistry is something that is very important to me this season," said Davis. "I want to win and that is something that I believe we can do as a team."

Tooks

Kim Tooks is a graduate of New York University and Brooklyn College with degrees in theater and communications. Tooks is teaching history and reading at CCHS.

Tooks comes to Alabama after working as a journalist in Atlanta.

"It is a big change from the city to south Alabama," said Tooks who recently moved to Sunflower with her son, Sean.

"When I was younger, my mom would ship me to Sunflower to spend my vacations down here with my grandmother and I loved it then, and I love it now."

Tooks comes to CCHS with an impressive background in theater. She has had roles in multiple Broadway productions and even in a movie, "Nursing Tuskegee." She also owns a theater company, Promise Theater. She continues to act in a one-woman show that she wrote.

"I adore everyone here. I am so grateful to have had the chance to work with good teachers and students," said Tooks.

The new teacher has high hopes of starting a drama club for CCHS.

Robinson-Turner

Tamika Robinson-Tumer is a CCHS alum and works in the special education department.

"It is awesome to be able to teach at my old high school," said Robinson. The Coffeeville native graduated from Alabama Southern with an associate's degree in business technology. She is the wife of Reggie Turner and the mother of daughter Tyanena.

"I absolutely love it here," said Robinson. "It is like being home again."

Hubbert

Athena Hubbert is the new volleyball coach at CCHS. She comes from Millry where she was an assistant coach for three years. This is her first year as a head coach. She is also the girls' physical education teacher at Wilson Hall Middle School.

Hubbert earned a degree in early childhood development from the University of West Alabama and played volleyball with the University of Mississippi for Women.

"I am excited about coaching here," said Hubbert. "I love the people here and the atmosphere. I'm working with a great group of girls and I believe we will have a great season."

Coach Hubbert and the teamopened their season on August 31.

The student body, faculty and staff welcome the five new teachers to the CCHS family.
