School year promises great things for students
By Jake Paul

School bells rang out from Clarke County High School Thursday, Aug. 10, marking the first day of the new school year. Four hundred and ten students were greeted by the construction of the new school, expected to be complete in August 2007; enthusiastic, dedicated teachers, four of which are new; portable classrooms; and the same administration.

"The school year is off to a great start," said Principal Debra Dennis. "We are very excited about our new facility. We have had to make some minor adjustments but everything is in place and all students are on task daily."

Students have been taking classes in the senior high building, portable classrooms, gyms, food labs and warehouses. The CCHS students and teachers have adapted well to the new environment, but are anxious for the new building.

This will be the last year for having classes in the existing 69-year-old facility.

CCHS is now the home to four new faculty members: Kendric Davis, Tori Johnson, Kim Tooks and Tameka Robinson-Tumer. All four come with experience and understanding of high school students and enthusiasm to teach.

The students have all fallen back into the school routine easily. With club activities, homework, sports practices, class projects and more, students could not help but to get back on the school's track.

"It is my hope that this year will be filled with many happy and memorable events," said Dennis.

We now have one successful month of school under our belt thanks to all of the teachers, students, parents and administration of Clarke County High School.
