Weapon not found in fatal Gainestown shooting

A Walker Springs man was killed Friday night at a hang-out in the Gainestown area.

Apparently Jamaury Whittaker, 22 was at a trailer on Cairo Lane, where some of the local residents gather, when someone walked up and shot him in the neck.

Later that evening Trenton Jauwan McClain, 22, who lives on Fools Acres Road, also in the Gainestown area, came back to the scene and was arrested and charged with murder.

Clarke County Sheriff's Deputies and members of the Jackson Rescue Squad spent a good part of the weekend looking for the weapon, which may have been a 20 gauge shotgun.

McClain's bond was set at $50,000.

Lead investigators in the case were Chief Investigator Vergil Chapman, Deputy Ron Baggett, assisted by Lieutenant Bobby Moore and Deputies Larry Gene Sheffield and Steve Carlisle.
