School projects updated The Clarke County Board of Education held a brief meeting Thursday, Aug. 31. Dirt work at the Gerald Stephens Sports Complex in Grove Hill will have to wait until a permit is issued from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM). The cafeteria project at Jackson Middle School is near completion and Superintendent Gerald Stephens said it should be in use around Christmas. The concession stand, bathrooms and ticket booth at Simpkins Stadium/Legion Field in Jackson are complete. Board members were presented a copy of emergency telephone numbers for Clarke County school system personnel. Payment of School Superintendents of Alabama dues in the amount of $4,765.20 was approved. Board members approved the a change in the Admission Policy for Homeless, Migratory and Limited English Proficiency Students. The policy which was once considered part of the Improving American Schools Act is now considered part of the No Child Left Behind Act. The resignation of Lisa Reeves from the Child Nutrition Program at Gillmore Elementary School was accepted. The payment of bills, accounts and payroll in the amount of $2,684,619.36 was approved. The next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.
