CCHS Babes volleyball team enters rankings

The Clarke County High School Babes volleyball team has jumped into the 3A rankings as the season enters its second full week.

In their opener they traveled to Chatom and beat both Washington County and Fruitdale.

In the second match they beat the Lady Bulldogs 25-19 and 25-17.

"Washington County really made it tough with their serves and spikes," Coach Athena Hubbert said. "But my girls really played hard."

Carrie Gordon, in game one, and Jasmine Morris, in game two, each served 11 of the team's 25 points.

In the second match CCHS beat Fruitdale 25-10 and 25-12.

Last Thursday the Babes beat T.R. Miller 25-22, 25-19 and 25-16 in a best 3-of-5 match.

"In the first game we were tied 22-22 and the girls stepped up and got three straight points to get that win," Hubbert said. "In the next two games they kept taking it up a notch to get the wins."

This week the Babes hosted Silas and Spanish Fort on Tuesday. Thursday (today) they travel to Thomasville to play the Lady Tigers and Demopolis. On Saturday they go to Leroy to play the Lady Bears and the eighth-ranked 3A team, Mobile Christian. It will be the first meeting between these two region schools in any sport.
