Wilcox hands Eagles second loss of season

The Jackson Academy Eagles took Highways 43 and 10 up to Camdenon Friday to face off against Wilcox Academy.

The Eagles were looking to grab their first win of the campaign but came away on the short end of the stick 35-6.

For the Eagles, Dennis Cranmore had 21 rushing attempts for 58 yards and one touchdown, Chance Lyon had 29 yards on four attempts while David Hughston had 18 yards on two attempts.

Wesley Harris was 6-for-14 on the night for 87 yards passing and one pick. Logan Barnes was 2-for-4 with 23 yards and one interception.

On the receiving end, Josh Howard had six receptions for 97 yards while Clint Smith had one reception for 3 yards and Cranmore had one for 1 yard.

Harris was also on the returning end of kicks with six runs for 94 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Cranmore had seven tackles with four assists while Harris had six tackles and three assists. Chad Carter also added six tackles for three assists.

For Wilcox Academy, Drew Bozeman rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns to lead them to their home victory.

Wilcox was able to pile up 330 yards on 33 carries to give them the 29-point victory.

Bozeman scored the first touchdown in the first quarter on a 33-yards run as Wilcox never looked back. Jason Ray scored early in the second quarter on a 62-yard run, followed by Wade Brantley on an 11-yard run and Will Albritton on a 7-yard run. Bozeman finished the game with a 54-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Ray had 82 yards on seven carries and Bozeman also racked up the numbers on defense with 11 tackles and one fumble recovery.

Jackson Academy will travel to Patrician Academy in Butler Friday night to take on the Saints while Wilcox will host Sparta Academy. Game time for both games will be at 7:30 p.m.
