The Coffeeville Panthers began their season out in harsh fashions as the Eagles from A.L. Johnson of Thomaston came to Coffeeville and defeated Coach Walter Rozier's Panthers 58-6.

The Eagles came out and scored early and often as they put up 58 first half points on the Coffeeville Panthers.

Coffeeville's only score came in the first quarter of play when Michael Thomas returned en ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown with 2:00 on the clock. The Panthers attempted a two-point conversion, but it failed.

Coffeeville took a sharp hit in the middle of the second quarter when team-leading quarterback Michael Thomas was ejected from the ballgame.

At halftime, A.L. Johnson led 58-6, as that would turn out to be the final score from Coffeeville.

"Our boys came out and played very hard against A.L. Johnson," said Coach Rozier. "We have to look toward next week when we open up in region play against Marengo in Dixon Mills. We have a young team and they are going to have to bond together."
