Community Calendar A dumpster will be located behind Grove Hill Town Hall during the week of Sept. 11-16 for citizens to clean up Grove Hill. The town is participating in Clarke County's Litter Awareness Week. Please do you part to help keep Grove Hill clean.
Scarbrough-Dixon reunion The Scarbrough-Dixon Family Reunion will be Saturday, Sept. 16 at Ryan's Restaurant on Hwy. 43 in Thomasville at 12 noon. Lunch may be purchased from the restaurant. Horse Show set in T'ville The Thomasville Saddle Club will sponsor a Horse Show Saturday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. Gaited events will be at 5 p.m. and timed events at 7 p.m. at the Thomasville Arena located on Old Hwy. 5 South. There will also be stick horse barrels, egg race, musical buckets and a cake walk. Nuthin' New Car Show The Nuthin' New Car Club will host its 16th annual show Saturday, Sept. 16 in Thomasville. The location this year is new, the parking lot of the Thomasville Plaza Shopping Center on Highway 43 (next to Fat Daddy's). Free dash plaques will be given to the first 125 entrants and there will be first, second and third place awards. Special awards will be for best of show and the longest distance driven to show. Registration is from 8 a.m. until noon when the judging begins. Awards will be presented at 3 p.m. There will be door prizes. The cost to enter a vehicle is $15.
SWAIA public meeting set The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association will hold a public meeting Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at Jackson Steakhouse. The guest speaker will be Attorney Chris Bailey of McCorquodale & McCorquodale Attorneys At Law. He will talk about issues associated with property settlements and will be available to answer legal questions in general.
Historical Society meets The Clarke County Historical Society will meet Sunday, Sept. 24 at 2:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill Town Hall. The speaker will be Jack Granade, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Granade and the late Rev. Charles Granade. Granade is employed by Thompson Engineering and is working on restoration plans for the Sand Island Lighthouse. The current Sand Island Lighthouse, located near the entrance to Mobile Bay, was constructed in 1873. The 125 foot tall, brick structure was deactivated in 1933. The public is invited to attend.

C'ville fireman's ball Coffeeville's Third Annual Fireman's Ball will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Coffeeville High School Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now $45/couple, or $25/single. Tickets include all you can eat fried seafood, music/entertainment, presentation of The Tombigbee Maids and lots of fun. Doors open at 6 p.m. Dress is semi-formal. Fulton School reunion Fulton School Reunion will be Saturday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. Please bring a covered dish lunch. This reunion is for all who attended the old and new school or just lived in Fulton. Come prepared to stay and hear some great gospel singing in downtown Fulton, beginning at 4 p.m., sponsored by the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department. Bring lawn chairs for the singing.
Thomasville High reunion The annual Alumni and Friends Reunion of Thomasville High School will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at Ezell's Fish Camp on Hwy. 10 just over the Tombigbee River Bridge past Nanafalia (approximately 26 miles northwest of Thomasville). The cost of the meal will be $16 each and annual dues of $10. Send in your reservation to Shirley Stephens at 398 Peachtree Road, Thomasville, AL 36784. You will have a choice of three entrees and the choices are: catfish (whole or filet and either fried or broiled); - fried chicken or chicken fingers (fried or grilled); hamburger steak. Tip and taxes are included in the price. Because of rising printing costs and mailing costs the mailing list has been reduced. It is now limited to those who have either sent in annual dues or have attended a reunion in the past three years. FVFD gospel singing The Fulton Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual Fall Gospel Singing Saturday, Oct. 7 in downtown Fulton from 4 p.m. until. Local talent includes: Bridgett Shewmake, Jennifer Henderson, Mark Lynn, Donald Pugh, Warren Harrell, Wayne Campbell, Brandy Beech, Rev. and Scotty, Centurions Quartet, Dixie Disciples, Grateful Heart and Cullomburg Quartet. Along with the singing there will be a cake auction and door prizes given. In case of rain the singing will be held Oct. 14. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the singing.
