Consultant hired to look at Grove Hill airport needs The Grove Hill Town Council hired Barge Waggoner Sumner & Cannon, Inc., an engineering firm in Dothan, to serve as consultants for a feasibility study for the Grove Hill airport. Barry Mott, vice president of BWSC attended Thursday's town council meeting along with airport committee representative Gil Gilmore. Mott told council members that the good news was the town's airport was on the NIPIAS (National Plan for Integrated Airport Systems) list, meaning they would be eligible for at least $150,000 in grant funds through the FAA over the next few years. For now they will begin working on a capital improvement project plan, which is required for the grant. The firm will also aid the town in applying for a 50/50 grant through the bureau of aeronautics, which Mott said was typically a $10,000 grant with a $10,000 match.
Permits A mobile home permit was approved for Lara Salter and Martin Baggett to place a mobile home on Church Street. Building permits were approved for the following: Grace Baptist Church to make improvement and repairs to the Brady Building on South Jackson Street; Walter Patterson to repair the wood frame on an existing structure on Hurd Street; Ray Brunson to repair and remodel the interior of his residence on Church Street; Kerry Stephens to add a carport to his home on Third Street and build a shed; The Mae Nell Legacy Group, LLC to repair siding/fascia exterior and install vinyl siding on home on Wright Street.
Other business It was determined that town employees could take their sick and annual leave in one hour increments. Mayor Lamar Hudson reminded town council members that September 11-16 was Litter Awareness Week in Clarke County. A dumpster will be placed behind town hall for those picking up litter around town to utilize.
