Area arrests are detailed Jessie Lee Roper was arrested Sept. 8 after a search warrant was executed at his Morris Street residence in Grove Hill. Officers found marijuana, several pipes, baggies and rolling papers. Roper, 57, was charged with possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia use and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. The search warrant was executed by Clarke County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Enforcement Officer Ron Baggett, Alcoholic Beverage Control officers, Task Force One and Grove Hill Police Department. Lonzo Head, 41, was arrested Sept. 11, following a lengthy investigation, for check forgery. Baggett and Sergeant Maurice Dyess were called to investigate a burglary at Robert Elroy Pugh's industrial shop on Chilton Road Aug. 23. At that time it did not appear that anything had been taken. A few weeks later several company checks, with forged signatures, came through. After interviewing the business personnel where the checks were written and reviewing surveillance tapes, Head was identified as the person passing the checks. He was charged with five counts of possession of a forged instrument and his bond was set at $37,500.
