Clarke Prep School News
Letter from Headmaster Cornelius

Clarke Prep School has begun a new school year with a renewed enthusiasm and a positive outlook toward the future.

Our student Population has increased to 430 students, straining our facilities for classroom space. I would speculate that most schools in the AISA would welcome such a situation.

I have been impressed with the character and caliber of the young people we have enrolled for this school year. Our parents certainly have to be proud of these young people.

Our staff is complete after a tedious search process encompassing a large portion of the state. It seems that most schools in west Alabama are finding it difficult to recruit teachers. However, we have assembled a staff of veteran teachers and a few beginning instructors who will benefit from the experience of our veteran teachers.

We are optimistic about our future and I am proud to be part of the Clarke Prep family.

Character counts!

Tuesday Sept. 5 was the official starting day for Character Counts!

Clarke Prep School understands that character is the outward expression of what is inside. Character has to be developed. It's not hereditary yet everyone regardless of background enters the world with the opportunity to become a person of exemplary character. Character Counts is based on the 6 Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Judge Bill Kimbrough, District Judge of Clarke County, Judge Harold Crow, Circuit Judge of Clarke County, Mark Lee, Marriage and Family Therapist with Southwest Alabama Mental Health and Marc Keahey, attorney seeking District 65 House of Representatives spoke to the high school students about the importance of Character. Clarke Prep School would like to thank the above mentioned for volunteering their time and wisdom.

The elementary students enjoyed having high school students come and speak with them about the 6 Pillars of Character. Clarke Prep School would like to thank: Jennifer Wood, Heather Dozier, Morgan Norris, Andrew Green, Brian Harrison, Corrie Allen, Jake Suddreth, Whitney Larrimore, Whitney Foreman, Tindal Long, J.D. Powell, Hannah Parden, Kayla Powell, Drew Harrigan, and Tanner Tucker for exhibiting Good Character to the elementary students.

Clarke Prep started the new school year off on Aug. 10. We welcomed back 430 K4-12 grade students. Everyone is excited about the new school year and all it has to offer.

We are so pleased to Welcome back Mr. Ted Cornelius as Headmaster for the 2006-2007 school year. He is a great leader and inspiration to everyone at Clarke Prep.
