CPS football field named for Coach Billy Hamilton

Clarke Prep School's head football coach Billy Hamilton was honored last Friday night prior to the game with Monroe Academy as the football field was named in his honor. The playing facility, long known as Rebel Stadium, will now carry the name of the coach and school alumnus who has led both CPS and Grove Hill Academy to five state crowns in 1987, 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2005 and to 175 career wins. In 2005 he was named Coach of the Year in the AISA by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. Hamilton thanked his family and the parents of all his current and former players for allowing them to be a part of his life for so many years. Former players presented a huge sign that will be placed at the front entrance and another sign is already on the front of the press box. The Gators won the game 32-12. See Page 1B for more on the game.
