The Thomasville Tigers went on the road to Evergreen this past Friday and won their second game of the season defeating the Hillcrest High School Jaguars 42-16.

In the win the Tigers rolled up 379 yards of offense while holding Hillcrest to only 103. The Tigers' offensive attack was pretty well balanced with 250 yards coming on the ground and 129 being picked up through the air.

Leading the Tigers' rushing attack was fullback Roya Campbell with 144 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries. Coming in next behind him was Delvonte Harris with 65 yards, one touchdown and a two-point conversion on seven carries.

In the passing game Tiger quarterback Jake Overstreet was a perfect 6 for 6 for 129 yards and three touchdowns. On the receiving end of Overstreet's passes were; Shed Simmons with four catches for 63 yards and two touchdowns; Tysean Thompson with one reception for 37 yards and one touchdown and Kenny Sanders with one reception for 29 yards.

On the flip side the Tiger defense was led by Justin Smith with seven tackles followed closely by Jarrell Watters with six. Katrell Watters who had four tackles was also credited with a sack while Smith and Scipio Tolbert combined for a second sack. Delvonte Harris was credited with a blocked punt and Alex Buford the recovery of the blocked kick.

The game itself started with Thomasville starting at their own 36 yard line and ended with their first points of the evening when Roya Campbell blasted in from three yards out with 8:13 to play in the first quarter. Cameron Dunagan added the extra-point and the Tigers were in front 7-0.

The Tigers set sail once more on a drive for points that was culminated when Jake Overstreet hit Shed Simmons on a 20 yard pass for a touchdown. The kick failed but Thomasville led 13-0 with 1:22 remaining in the opening quarter.

With the Thomasville defense absolutely shutting down the Jaguars the Tiger offense was soon back in business taking over the ball at the Hillcrest 49 following a partially blocked punt. Having the ball in excellent field position, it took the Tigers very little time to get back to the end zone as Overstreet hooked up with Tysean Thompson on a 37-yard pass for the Tigers' third touchdown with 9:58 remaining in the second quarter. Delvonte Harris added the two-point conversion and the Tiger lead was 21-0.

Apparently not satisfied with a partial block on the Jaguars' last punt, the Thomasville defense went after it again and completely blocked it this time with Harris getting credit for the block. Alex Buford picked up the loose ball and ran it back to the Hillcrest 15 where the Thomasville offense set up shop. From there it took the Tigers one play to add to their lead when QB Overstreet scored on a 15-yard bootleg. Dunagan booted the extra-point and the Thomasville lead was 28-0 with 8:10 remaining in the second period.

Hillcrest got on the scoreboard next but it wasn't their offense that accounted for the points. Instead it was an alert Jaguar defender who scooped up a Thomasville fumble at the Tiger 46-yard line and raced to the end zone. The extra-point was good and the lead had been cut to 28-7 with 5:39 still remaining before halftime.

It didn't take the Tigers long to answer the Jaguar score as they quickly marched 72 yards on their next possession. Overstreet ended the drive connecting with Shed Simmons on a 23-yard touchdown pass. Dunagan was on target and the Tiger lead stood at 35-7 with 3:17 still on the first half clock.

In the second half Thomasville's offense was quickly in the end zone again when Harris scampered 45 yards for what would be the Tigers' last score of the evening. Dunagan knocked his fifth extra-point through and Thomasville was on top 42-7 with 7:43 remaining in the third quarter.

Hillcrest would cut the lead to 42-9 late in the third quarter when a bad snap on a Thomasville punt resulted in a safety on the Tigers and would further reduce it to 42-16 in the last minute of the game as the Tiger coaching staff substituted freely.

The Tigers (2-0, 1-0) hosts Jackson (1-1, 1-0) this Friday and kick off for the game is set for 7 p.m. Friday at D. F. Anderson Field.
