Community Calendar Board of Education meets today The Clarke County Board of Education will meet Thursday, (today), Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. Items to be discussed are the agenda, superintendent's report, bids, selection of delegates to AASB Convention, approval of Career Tech Policy Manual, personnel, bills, accounts and payroll, and financial information.
VFW fish fry in Thomasville VFW Post 5106 will have a fish fry for a fundraiser Friday, Sept. 22 at the post located at 555 Old Highway 5 south. Pick up time will be 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Mounted Sheriff's Posse horse show The Clarke County Mounted Sheriff's Posse is having a horse show Saturday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Roy Miller Arena on the Allen Road in Grove Hill. For more information call 251-246-9266.
Historical Society meets Sept. 24 The Clarke County Historical Society will meet Sunday, Sept. 24 at 2:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill Town Hall. The speaker will be Jack Granade, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Granade and the late Rev. Charles Granade. Granade is employed by Thompson Engineering and is working on restoration plans for the Sand Island Lighthouse. The current Sand Island Lighthouse, located near the entrance to Mobile Bay, was constructed in 1873. The 125 foot tall, brick structure was deactivated in 1933. The public is invited to attend.
BTAPC casting call set for new play Ballet and Theatre Arts Performing Companies is now in the process of casting the musical "Smoke on the Mountain." First audition is Sunday, Sept. 24 from 2 until 4 p.m. in Gilbertown at the theatre. The play takes place in the sanctuary of the Mount Pleasant Church in Mount Pleasant, N.C., located just west of Hickory near the Blue Ridge Mountains. The play is a Saturday night in June, 1938 and the United States is in the last years of the Great Depression. Organized religion is at its peak. Saturday night sings by families of gospel singers have become the much needed and highly appreciated entertainment of the time. VFW Post 5106 meets in Thomasville VFW Post 5106 and its ladies auxiliary will hold its regular monthly meeting Monday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. All members are urged to attend.
Town Council special meeting set The Grove Hill Town Council will meet in a Special Session Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the Downtown Revitalization Plans for the much talked about Streetscape design, as well as to discuss the proposed town budget for 06/07.
Bozeman family reunion The children of the late Eldridge and Ruby Bozeman will have a family reunion Sunday, Oct. 1 at the home of Grady and Florence Mazingo located at 159 Grady Mazingo Road off the Ararat Road.
Mississippi Pecan Festival set The 19th Annual Mississippi Pecan Festival will be Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1 in Richton, Miss. This year the festival will have a great line-up of demonstrating crafters and artisans that will include basket weaving, broom making, spinning and weaving, pottery, soap making, candle making, furniture making, bowl turning and charcoal caricatures. CVFD's third annual fireman's ball Coffeeville's Third Annual Fireman's Ball will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Coffeeville High School Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now $45/couple, or $25/single. Tickets include all you can eat fried seafood, music/entertainment, presentation of The Tombigbee Maids and lots of fun. The plates will be $8 and includes fish, baked beans, potato salad, French fries, roll, cake slices, and drinks. Fulton School reunion is Oct. 7 Fulton School Reunion will be Saturday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. Please bring a covered dish lunch. This reunion is for all who attended the old and new school or just lived in Fulton. Come prepared to stay and hear some great gospel singing in downtown Fulton, beginning at 4 p.m., sponsored by the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department. Bring lawn chairs for the singing.
Thomasville High reunion set The annual Alumni and Friends Reunion of Thomasville High School will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at Ezell's Fish Camp on Hwy. 10 just over the Tombigbee River Bridge past Nanafalia (approximately 26 miles northwest of Thomasville). The cost of the meal will be $16 each and annual dues of $10.00. Send in your reservation to Shirley Stephens at 398 Peachtree Road, Thomasville, AL 36784. You will have a choice of three entrees and the choices are: catfish (whole or filet and either fried or broiled); - fried chicken or chicken fingers (fried or grilled); hamburger steak. All are served with Ezell's famous cole slaw, hushpuppies and either fries or baked potato or onion rings and sweet or unsweet tea. Tip and taxes are included in the price. You can also order (on your own) appetizers of fried dill pickles or blooming onion. Because of rising printing costs and mailing costs the mailing list has been reduced. It is now limited to those who have either sent in annual dues or have attended a reunion in the past three years. FVFD gospel singing The Fulton Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual Fall Gospel Singing Saturday, Oct. 7 in downtown Fulton from 4 p.m. until. Local talent includes: Bridgett Shewmake, Jennifer Henderson, Mark Lynn, Donald Pugh, Warren Harrell, Wayne Campbell, Brandy Beech, Rev. and Scotty, Centurions Quartet, Dixie Disciples, Grateful Heart and Cullomburg Quartet. Along with the singing there will be a cake auction and door prizes given. In case of rain the singing will be held Oct. 14. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the singing.
