Pictured are Cliff Scarbrough, Commander of VFW Post 5106; Travis Waley, State Adjuctant Quartermaster; Mae Parden, Ladies Auxiliary president; and Ray Purvis, junior vice-president of Post 5106.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5106 and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Thomasville have been busy lately.

The groups sponsored a school of instruction at the post on Sept. 9. Travis Whaley, Alabama State Adjutant-Quartermaster of Montgomery, was the guest speaker and instructor.

Robert Pruitt and his daughter Linda, of Grove Hill, served a breakfast of sausage, biscuits, gravy and coffee to the thirty plus people attending the event.

Five of the six District 10 VFW Posts were represented: VFW Post 3223 of Butler, VFW Post 5355 of Jackson, VFW Post 5377 of Linden, VFW Post 5848 of Lisman and VFW Post 5106 of Thomasville.

VFW Post 5106 and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary have three members serving in district positions this year. Mrs. Mae Parden, Auxiliary President, also serves as the District 10 Auxiliary President, Luther Parden, Post Quartermaster, also serves as District 10 Commander, and Cliff Scarborough, Post Commander, serves as District 10 Quartermaster.

Sept. 11 was Patriots Day and several of the veterans and auxiliary members met to celebrate America, honoring the timeless traditions of courage, honor and commitment. The nation's POW'S, MIA's and troops who are serving to protect our country were remembered. Sept. 15 is recognized as POW/MIA Recognition Day.

Other September Americanism Holidays are Sept. 14 which is the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Founded (1914), Gold Star Mother's Day on Sept. 25 and the 107 VFW Birthday (1899) which is celebrated on Sept. 29.

There will be a fish fry at VFW Post 5106 on Friday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Plates are $6 each. To pre-order, please contact Luther Parden at 251-275-8518 or contact any of the VFW members or the ladies auxiliary members.

The monthly meeting for the VFW and auxiliary will be on Monday night, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at the post. All members are encouraged to attend.
