United Way campaign starts

A luncheon at the Grove Hill United Methodist Church Tuesday officially kicked off the 2006 fall campaign for the Clarke County United Way. The goal this year is $150,000. The organization raised $160,000 last year and Jackson Mayor Richard Long, chairman of the Clarke County United Way, said he was confident the goal can be met and exceeded. From left are Long; Campaign Co-Chairman LeAnn Floyd; Campaign Chairman Julia Ann Deas; Campaign Co-Chairman Kate Jordan; and Angelo Miller, executive director of the United Way of Southwest Alabama, which includes Clarke, Mobile and Washington counties. The local United Way encourages businesses, industries and individuals to contribute. There are 54 agencies that help people that benefit from the United Way.
