Sunshine no match for Sweet Water's attack
The Bulldogs hit the big play several times in the contest to put the game out of reach again their region foe. "One thing I was really pleased with was the we played with more intensity, especially on the offensive line," Coach Stacy Luker said. "Hopefully we get even better this week." Luker also praised the play of his offense during their 2-minute drill just before halftime. Quarterback Drew Luker got things started in the first quarter with a 7-yard run. Ty Glass added the conversion and Sweet Water led 7-0 with 8:22 to go in the first stanza. Less than three minutes later fullback Dominic Holt punched through for a 1-yard TD run. In the scoring drive Luker hit Johnny Lockett with a 17-yard completion and Holt had a 14-yard run as well. The try was no good but the Bulldogs increased their lead to 13-0 with 5:01 left in the first. Sunshine was not to be intimidated as they capitalized on a fumbled Sweet Water punt to set up their first touchdown. It came on a 10-yard pass, but the conversion failed, cutting the lead to 13-6 with 1:01 left in the first quarter. Minutes later Sweet Water extended their lead when Luker dialed up Travis Young with a 10-yard scoring strike. Glass converted the kick and the Bulldogs led 20-6. The Sweet Water defense forced a punt on the ensuing Sunshine possession and took over at their own 29-yard line. On the first play Anthony Landrum found a seam and raced 71-yards for the next Bulldog touchdown. Glass added the conversion and the rout was on 27-6 with 8:37 left before halftime. The next Sweet Water possession was a quick one-play drive again. This time Johnny Lockett had the honors as he took the ball 85-yards on the single play. The attempt failed as the Bulldogs added to the lead 33-6. The defense held Sunshine and forced a punt just before halftime. With :58 seconds left before the break Sweet Water worked on their two-minute offense. Luker was 3-for-3 in the drive and capped it with a 22-yard strike to Young. Glass' kick made the score 40-6 at the break. In the third quarter Sweet water got scoring runs from Holt, 21-yards; Landrum, 70-yards; and J. Lockett, 25-yards as well as three conversions from Glass to tighten the stranglehold 61-6. Sunshine added a touchdown and 2-point conversion to make the score 61-14. In the fourth quarter the Bulldog defense added points of their own when Josh Hudson picked up a fumble and returned it 35-yards for the score. Glass kicked the PAT, making the score 68-14. Anthony Landrum led all rushers with 240 yards on 11 carries and two scores. Holt had 121 yards on 10 carries and a pair of TDs. Lockett added 115 yards on three carries and scored twice.
