Babes finish third in 8-team bracket

The Clarke County High School Babes won their pool and finished third in the Clarke County Classic volleyball tournament this past Saturday in Grove Hill.

Clarke County lost 17-25, 25-23 and 4-15 to Mobile Christian in the semi-finals.

In pool play, the Babes beat Flomaton 25-16 and 25-11. Next they beat Monroe County 25-16 and 25-20. In the final game of pool play CCHS beat Thomasville 25-19, 20-25 and 15-7.

Carrie Gordon and Minetre Martin were named to the all-tournament team.

Gordon had five aces, 11 kills and 32 service points. Martin had three kills, nine aces, nine assists and 29 service points. Hannah Barnes added six aces and five kills. Jessica Johnson had seven aces, eight assists and three kills.

Head coach Athena Hubbert also praised the play of Schaefer Bradford, Jasmine Morris and Nikki Williams in the tournament as well.

"I thought we did pretty well," Hubbert said. "The girls played hard and they never quit. That is what you want.

"We are getting better and better," she added.

Clarke County took this week off because of Exit Exams.
