Butlerfest is BBQ cookoff for Memphis competition; lots more planned too

The City of Butler is off and running with their Third Annual Butlerfest/Memphis In May Sanctioned Event. This event will be held along the historic downtown square and is planned for Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4. There will be lots to do for all ages including a 5K run and fun walk, a car show, historical walking tour of downtown Butler, arts and crafts, food vendors, a carnival with lots of rides, a sauce competition open to all, a Street Dance Friday and Saturday night sponsored by WINN-98 and of course plenty of BBQ to go around.

The BBQ Cookoff begins Friday with the Backyard Division. This group of cookers will be dishing out some ribs and chicken for judging and is a less structured event than the Memphis In May Event. Also, Friday afternoon there will be the "Little Porkers" Challenge. This is for the young enthusiast ages 7-14. They will be building the "Ultimate Burger."

Friday will be the beginning of the Memphis In May Event. The Cookers will begin to roll into town as early as Wednesday to size up their competition. The rules and regulations for this event are very structured. The Memphis In May competitors will compete in three categories: Whole Hog, Ribs, and Shoulder. So be sure to put this event on your calendar and come on down to tempt your taste buds with some fine BBQ and a whole lot of family fun Friday and Saturday.

If you want more information on any of the Cooking Events or have any questions, please call Butler City Hall at 205-459-3795 or email butlercityhall@tds.net. Also, you can call the Chamber of Commerce at 205-459-3459.
