Child struck by car on 84
7-year-old in second grade at Grove Hill Elementary

A tennis shoe is surrounded by orange cones on Hwy. 84 where a child was struck Tuesday.
Seven-year-old Stephon Horn remained in critical condition Wednesday morning after being hit by a car on Highway 84 near Whatley Tuesday afternoon after he got off a school bus.

Horn, a second grade student at Grove Hill Elementary School, had gotten off the school bus and had cleared the stop, which is in front of the house where he and his mother, Latrice Horn live, according to the bus driver.

It is believed he had crossed the highway, going to a relative's house, but then turned around and went back across the road toward his house when the accident occurred.

Horn was transported to Grove Hill Memorial Hospital and then LifeFlighted to USA Women's and Children's Hospital in Mobile.

The vehicle involved was driven by Bernice Hollins Pugh of Whatley.

Alabama State Trooper Chuck Gilliland investigated the accident.
