Black Belt Treasures sets classes in Camden Black Belt Treasures announces a series of art classes and special events which will be held during October. Regional artists and craftsmen will be featured during each of the special events and serve as instructors for the classes. Black Belt Treasures is located in Downtown Camden at 209 Claiborne Street in the old McGraw-Webb Chevrolet building. Art Zone is an art workshop for children that will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7 in the BBT Art Education Room. During this workshop, instructor Sharon Owens of Monroeville will guide the children in completing two paintings - an acrylic and a watercolor. This workshop is open to children currently enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade. The cost of the workshop is $30 which includes all supplies. Deadline for registration is Thursday, Oct. 5. Art Escape, an adult art series, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, 19, 26, and Thursday, Nov. 2 and 9, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the BBT Art Education Room. Art instructor Fay Bennett of Pine Apple will lead adults in learning basic drawing and acrylic painting techniques. Each participant will complete projects during the class. Registration for this class is limited to 12 students. The registration fee of $125 includes all supplies. Deadline for registration is Monday, Oct. 9. On the first Wednesday of October, a Stitch n' Sip event will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. Stitching enthusiasts are invited to bring their favorite stitching project to the gallery, stitch for a while, visit with friends, and enjoy a cup of coffee or hot tea. Second generation potter, Sam Williams of Monroeville will educate and entertain visitors to the gallery as he throws pottery on the wheel, on Friday, Oct. 13. He will discuss his background, technique and style, as well as the history of pottery making. His completed pottery works are on display and for sale in the gallery. The demonstrations will be held between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and are free to the public. On Saturday, Oct. 28, the first anniversary of Black Belt Treasures will be celebrated with a Folk Life Festival. Artists and craftsman from throughout the Black Belt region will be on hand demonstrating their crafts. The public is invited to attend this free event. The festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with demonstrations, music, food, fun, and shopping throughout the day.
