Bulldogs plow through Patriots
Keyed by a 28-point second quarter, the Bulldog offense breezed through Linden for 387 yards on the ground and 71 yards in the air. Midway through the first quarter Anthony Landrum broke free and scored on a 53-yard run. The kick failed but Sweet Water led 6-0 with 6:22 left in the first. Less than two minutes later Sweet Water was on the board again as fullback Dominic Holt powered his way for a 39-yard touchdown run. Anthony Landrum ran in the 2-point conversion to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead. In the next three minutes Sweet Water added three more touchdowns to put the game out of reach. All three were 1-play drives and the final two came after the SWHS defense partially blocked two punts. Landrum went 57-yards for the first score. Ty Glass kicked the PAT making it 21-0. Holt followed with a 49-yard sprint. Glass again made the kick as the Bulldogs tightened their stranglehold 28-0. The final score of the half came when Drew Luker dialed in Travis Young for a 23-yard touchdown pass. Glass again was true on the kick attempt and the score was 35-0 as the first half came to an end. In the second half the Bulldog defense held the Patriots out of the endzone again while the offense had their way with the Linden squad. Early in the third Luker found Scottie Nelson for a 13-yard touchdown pass. Glass converted the point-after touchdown try and the Bulldogs increased their lead to 42-0. Second team tailback Johnny Lockett got in on the scoring frenzy as he rambled 47-yards for the Sweet Water touchdown. Glass made the kick and the Bulldogs led 49-0 with 9:49 left in the third quarter. The final score in the game came courtesy of the defense as Luker picked off a Linden pass and returned it 35-yards for the SWHS touchdown. Glass made the kick and the Bulldogs came home with a 56-0 region win. Anthony Landrum led all rushers with 180 yards on 13 carries and two scores. Holt added 127 yards on 11 carries. Lockett had 57 yards on two carries. Luker was 5-of-10 passing for 71 yards and a pair of scores. Holt led a defense that held Linden to just 95 yards with 13 tackles. Lockett had nine stops. Nelson added seven stops. Jacques Lockett had seven tackles and two sacks. The Bulldogs (3-1, 3-0) step out of region play in a big way this week as they travel to Leroy to take on the top-ranked 2A Bears. "I just hope we can stay in the game with them," Coach Stacy Luker said. "They have a good team. "But this game is good for us," he added. "There will be a playoff type of atmosphere and preparation and it will be good for the kids to meet a team like the top-ranked team 2A." The Bears (4-0, 3-0) beat Georgiana 28-0 last Friday night. Game time at Palmer Stadium is 7 p.m.
