Bears beat Georgiana, set for Sweet Water The Leroy High School Bears were determined not to fall victim to the Georgiana Panthers this Friday night as they beat their region foe 28-0 at Palmer Stadium in Leroy. Georgiana knocked off previous number one Southern Choctaw a week ago, which helped propel the Bears into the top spot this week. The Bear's defense was the key to the game as they held the Panthers to just 12 yards in rushing and 30 yards in the air. They also forced four turnovers and held Georgiana out of the endzone when they marched inside the Leroy 20-yard line. Detrick Powell started the game's scoring as he plowed in from 12-yards out. The attempt failed but with 5:40 left in the first Leroy led 6-0. Later in the second quarter Johnny Williams raced around the end and then hit the afterburners on a 62-yard touchdown run. Powell ran in the 2-point conversion as the Bears added to their lead 14-0.
The game remained that way until very late in the third quarter when Ronald Bracy, fresh off an injury that occurred in the Jackson game, sprinted for a 69-yard touchdown run. Paul Gartman kicked the PAT and the lead was increased to 21-0. The scoring was capped early in the fourth quarter when Clint Moseley hit Patrick Weaver with a 7-yard TD pass. Gartman's kick made the final margin 28-0. Bracy led all rushers with 172 yards on nine carries and a score. Powell had 56 yards on 11 carries and a score. Williams added 52 yards one three carries and a TD. Moseley was 7-of-11 passing for 69 yards, a TD and an interception. Seth Headley, Craig Weaver, J.T. Anderson and Michael Bracy all had fumble recoveries. This Friday the Bears (4-0, 3-0) step out of region play to host the Sweet Water Bulldogs in a battle of two of the area's traditional powers. The Bulldogs (3-1, 3-0) beat Linden 56-0 last Friday night, but their one loss came at the hands of top-ranked 4A Thomasville. Game time is 7 p.m.
