CCDEC meets tonight

The Clarke County Democratic Executive Committee will meet Thursday, (tonight), Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the main courtroom at the Clarke County Courthouse. The public and all candidates are invited to attend.

CVFD's third annual

fireman's ball set

Coffeeville's Third Annual Fireman's Ball will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Coffeeville High School Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now $45/couple, or $25/single. Tickets include all you can eat fried seafood, music/entertainment, presentation of The Tombigbee Maids and lots of fun. Doors open at 6 p.m. Dress is semi-formal. Gilbertown's Oktoberfest

this weekend

Oktoberfest 2006 will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 in Gilbertown. This second year is sponsored by the Gilbertown and Friends Relay for Life. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Campaign. This event includes an antique and late model car show, some 38 vendors (both craft and food), pie eating contest, three legged race and coloring contest for the young at heart. Music will play throughout the day from local talent. Fish fry benefit cookout

There will be a benefit fish fry cookout for Deacon Earnest Williams Saturday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. across from GoCo in Coffeeville at the Intersection of Hwy. 69-84. The plates will be $8 and includes fish, baked beans, potato salad, French fries, roll, cake slices, and drinks. Fulton School reunion set

Fulton School Reunion will be Saturday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. Please bring a covered dish lunch. This reunion is for all who attended the old and new school or just lived in Fulton. Come prepared to stay and hear some great gospel singing in downtown Fulton, beginning at 4 p.m., sponsored by the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department. Bring lawn chairs for the singing.

The Fulton Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual Fall Gospel Singing Saturday, Oct. 7 in downtown Fulton from 4 p.m. until. Local talent includes: Bridgett Shewmake, Jennifer Henderson, Mark Lynn, Donald Pugh, Warren Harrell, Wayne Campbell, Brandy Beech, Rev. and Scotty, Centurions Quartet, Dixie Disciples, Grateful Heart and Cullomburg Quartet. Along with the singing there will be a cake auction and door prizes given. In case of rain the singing will be held Oct. 14. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the singing. BTAPC casting

audition reset

The Ballet Theatre Arts Performing Companies of Gilbertown was not able to cast the musical "Smoke On the Mountain" at its first audition. Another audition has been scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. at the theatre at 253 College Street. They are especially interested in seeing people who could play the teenage boy, Dennis but other roles are open also. You do not have to be 17 but you have to look the part. The cast is as follows: Mervin Oglethorpe, church minister, Burl Sanders, Father, late 40's, Vera Sanders, mother, mid 40's, Stanley Sanders, uncle, late 40's, Dennis and Denise Sanders, Twins, 17 and June Sanders, sister, 23. ATRC annual meeting

in Selma set Oct. 11

The Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission will hold its 36th Annual meeting Wednesday, Oct. 11 at the Selma Convention Center. A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m and a seafood dinner catered by "Roussos" of Mobile will be served at 7 p.m. If you would like to make arrangements to attend the 36th annual meeting, please contact the ATRC at 1-334-682-4234. HIV prevention group meets Oct. 13

The Area-Wide HIV Prevention Community Group will meet Friday, Oct. 13 at the Monroe County Health Department at 11 a.m. This meeting is open to anyone who supports increased awareness of HIV and stopping its spread. For more information, contact Maureen Nichols at 251-275-7108.

The Coffeeville Volunteer Fire Department will have a Shrimp Boil Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10:30 a.m. until. The price will be $8 per plate or per pound.

Coffeeville "Old Timers"

Reunion set

All former students, teachers and friends of Coffeeville High School are invited to attend an "Ole Timers" Reunion Saturday, Oct. 21 . Registration begins at 9 a.m. A covered dish luncheon is planned. Everyone is encouraged to attend and bring your favorite dish. The graduating Class of 1956 will be honored at this time. Attending will be former students from a wide range of classes and this is a great opportunity to see old friends. Horsey Costume Contest

The Thomasville Saddle Club will sponsor a Horsey Costume Contest Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The horse must be in costume but is optional for the rider/handler. Jackpot pays: best in show, funniest and scariest. There is a $5 entry fee. Council's Ghost Walk set

The Arts Council of Thomasville will present the third annual Kathryn Tucker Windham "Ghost Walk" Saturday, Oct. 28 at 5 p.m at Clay Park in downtown Thomasville. Enjoy a hayride to historic homes while listening to music, singing and tales of Thomasville's past. Storytellers in period costume will tell tales from the "13 Alabama Ghosts" series. Thomasville native Kathryn Tucker Windham will also be on hand to tell a few tales of her own. There will also be Ghost Walk t-shirts and books by Mrs. Windham available for purchase, a children's costume contest beginning at 6 p.m. and the Dixie River Band will entertain at Clay Park. A children's entertainment area, sponsored by the Thomasville High School Drama Club will feature space jumps, slides and more. Armbands for this special area will be $5. Bring the entire family and enjoy a night celebrating the Southern tradition of storytelling. Price per family: $15. Individual ticket price, $5.
