Ex-boyfriend charged with torching Mustang

A Sweet Water man was arrested for what Clarke County deputies believe was a crime of passion last week.

About 9:30 p.m. on Friday Sept. 29, Patsy Blankenship and her daughter Ashley Leonard had returned to their home in Chilton and thought it was on fire.

They followed the smoke and found Leonard's 2004 Ford Mustang in flames.

Leonard told Investigator Vergil Chapman that she suspected her ex-boyfriend, Bobby Wayne Hill, burned the car.

Later officers were informed that a vehicle, fitting the description of Hill's, had been seen in the area about that same time.

A BOLO for Hill was issued and he was found by Marengo County sheriff's deputies at Sweet Water Bank. Hill was detained and then transported to Clarke County. Following an interview with Investigator Chapman, Hill was charged with criminal mischief, first degree. His bond was set at $10,000.
