HIV prevention

group meets Oct. 13

The Area-Wide HIV Prevention Community Group will meet Friday, Oct. 13 at the Monroe County Health Department at 11 a.m. This meeting is open to anyone who supports increased awareness of HIV and stopping its spread. For more information, contact Maureen Nichols at 251-275-7108.

CVFD Shrimp Boil

The Coffeeville Volunteer Fire Department will have a Shrimp Boil Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10:30 a.m. until. The price will be $8 per plate or per pound.

SWAIA meeting set

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association, (SWAIA), will hold a public meeting, Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at Jackson Steakhouse. The speaker will be Thedford A. Rowser-Bey, legal researcher/consultant. Rowser-Bey assists private citizens in recovering land and property. Rocket Boys discussion

The Grove Hill Community Study Club and the Grove Hill Arts Council will host a discussion of the 2006 Community Book Read Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam on Tuesday, October 17 , at 7 p.m. at the Grove Hill City Hall. The discussion will be lead by the president of the Grove Hill Arts Council Terry Norris and Grove Hill Arts Council member-at-large Annell Gordon, who has recently returned from a visit to Coalwood, West Virginia, setting for the memoir. She will share a slide show of pictures from the trip. Norris and Gordon will be assisted by members of Mrs. Gordon's eighth grade reading class from Wilson Hall Middle School. Those who have read the book and those who might be interested in reading it are encouraged to attend.

CHS 'Old Timers' Reunion is Oct. 21

All former students, teachers and friends of Coffeeville High School are invited to attend an "Ole Timers" Reunion Saturday, Oct. 21 . Registration begins at 9 a.m. A covered dish luncheon is planned. Everyone is encouraged to attend and bring your favorite dish. The graduating Class of 1956 will be honored at this time. Attending will be former students from a wide range of classes and this is a great opportunity to see old friends. Horsey Costume Contest

The Thomasville Saddle Club will sponsor a Horsey Costume Contest Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The horse must be in costume but is optional for the rider/handler. Jackpot pays: best in show, funniest and scariest. There is a $5 entry fee. Thomas family reunion

Relatives of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.R. (Billy) Thomas of Lower Peach Tree plan a family reunion Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Community House in Jackson. Descendants of James Monroe McKinley will be meeting at the Liberty Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Saturday, Oct. 28 . Come early, bring a covered dish and expect to enjoy yourself.

'Ghost Walk' in T'ville

The Arts Council of Thomasville will present the third annual Kathryn Tucker Windham "Ghost Walk" Saturday, Oct. 28 at 5 p.m at Clay Park in downtown Thomasville. Enjoy a hayride to historic homes while listening to music, singing and tales of Thomasville's past. Storytellers in period costume will tell tales from the "13 Alabama Ghosts" series. Thomasville native Kathryn Tucker Windham will also be on hand to tell a few tales of her own. There will also be Ghost Walk t-shirts and books by Mrs. Windham available for purchase, a children's costume contest beginning at 6 p.m. and the Dixie River Band will entertain at Clay Park. A children's entertainment area, sponsored by the Thomasville High School Drama Club will feature space jumps, slides and more. Armbands for this special area will be $5. Bring the entire family and enjoy a night celebrating the Southern tradition of storytelling. Price per family: $15. Individual ticket price, $5. Mexican cruise planned

for 2007 class reunion

The Clarke County High School Class of 1977 is preparing for a 30th year class reunion for next year. They are cruising to Cozumel, Mexico on Dec. 13, 2007. The price is $330 per person. If anyone would like to go, contact Debra A. Nobles at 334-636-6881 or 334-830-0667 by Nov. 30, 2006.

Grove Hill's Christmas parade will be Dec. 7

Grove Hill's Annual Christmas Parade will be Thursday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. The theme for this year's parade is "All I Want For Christmas Is." For more information please contact the Grove Hill Area Chamber of Commerce at 251-275-4188.
