Tale Tellin' Festival in Selma this weekend
The weekend of Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14 is the perfect time for a visit to Selma. That's when the historic city hosts its 28th Annual Alabama Tale Tellin' Festival. Kathryn Windham, one of Alabama's most beloved residents and founder of the festival, will emcee the event. She will also grace the tale tellin' audience with some of her stories. Guest tale tellers this year are two of the country's finest, Pat Mendoza and Gayle Ross. A Saturday evening bonus will be The Dill Pickers, an extraordinary group of entertainers known for their rollicking blend of music and comedy.
Admission to the festival is $10 for adults and $5 for children (12 and under).
Both the Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7 p.m. in Selma's Pickard Auditorium on Washington Street. But all are invited to arrive earlier and enjoy the "Swappin' Ground"- a time of family fun that precedes the main events.
Swappin' Ground, which begins at 5:30, gives audience members of all ages an opportunity to share their own tall tales in a relaxed, supportive setting.
