Heavy rain causes wrecks

Grove Hill and Helwestern firefighters look at a car that was demolished when it struck an SUV on Highway 43 near Dr. Seller's veterinary office south of Grove Hill during a hard rain storm before dawn Tuesday. Firefighters had to cut Renee Syphrit of Jackson from the wreckage. Juanita McClain, also of Jackson, was driving the other vehicle. Syphrit was seriously injured and was taken first to Jackson Medical Center and then transferred to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile where she reportedly underwent surgery later in the day. McClain was reportedly not seriously hurt. Grove Hill Policeman Royce Kelley worked the wreck outside of his jurisdiction without assistance from other lawmen for several minutes during the heavy rain. Another vehicle reportedly hydroplaned on Highway 84 about the same time.
