Pioneer Day returning to local museum Nov. 11

Old-timey workings and crafts demonstrated at Pioneer Day event.
After a year off, the Clarke County Historical Museum will again be hosting its seventh Pioneer Day Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year plans to be the best year ever for the event with many new demonstrations as well as the familiar favorites.

As many as 25 demonstrations are scheduled, the most ever. Some of the new events include storyteller Wanda Johnson, pine needle basket weaving, commercial butter churning, Creek War soldiers, and sweet gumming.

In addition, new re-enactors in the form of Creek War and Alamo hero Sam Dale and Clarke County historian T. H. Ball will be on hand to tell visitors about early Clarke County.

Local favorite Winky Hicks and his band will provide musical entertainment.

Other demonstrations will include candle making, campfire cooking, flintknapping, chair caning, rope making, corn shuck dolls, shingle splitting, cross cut sawing and clothes washing.

All events will take place on the grounds of the Clarke County Museum in Grove Hill. Admission is free. For more information, contact the museum office at 251-275-8684.
