Fed authorities search burned MOP church as investigation of '05 fire apparently continues

ATF officials and other lawmen were at the burned MOP church last week.
Four search warrants were conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice Division of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Internal Revenue Service Civil Investigation Division, the State of Alabama Fire Marshal and Clarke County Sheriff's Department, relating to a fire that destroyed the Miracles of Prayer Church on Highway 43 in Grove Hill Dec. 27, 2005.

The search warrants, which were issued following an investigation of the fire, were executed at the MOP Stop, a former restaurant owned by the church and next door to the church, the church building itself, a residence at Southern Pines Mobile Home Park and a Marengo county residence.

Some property was seized, but no details were released about what was taken or if any evidence of arson was found.

The Clarke County Baptist Association building next door to the church also caught fire that morning after an apparent power surge caused by the MOP fire.
