The Clarke Prep School Gators lost a close one 14-7 last Friday night to the Warriors of Cottage Hill Christian in Mobile.

Even though they lost the region game, they still have the inside tract to the four seed in the playoffs as long as they get a win over Hooper Academy this week.

In the Cottage Hill contest the Warriors scored in the first quarter on a 40-yard pass from Bragan Jackson to Trey Bonner. Bradley Hughes kicked the PAT to make it 7-0.

In the third quarter the Warriors added to that lead when Robbie Brillhart scored on a 1-yard run. Hughes' kick made it 14-0 with 3:32 left in the stanza.

In the fourth quarter the Gators finally put together a scoring drive after forcing Cottage Hill to turn the ball over on downs at the CPS 25-yard line.

The Gators converted two fourth down plays in the scoring drive as they moved to paydirt.

Wesley Morgan capped the drive with a 10-yard run. Hunter Mayton kicked the PAT as Clarke Prep cut the lead in half 14-7 with 5:15 left to play.

Cottage Hill missed a 27-yard field goal attempt on the ensuing possession and the Gators had a shot from mid-field, but time expired before advancing any farther, leaving the final score at 14-7 in favor of the Warriors.

Morgan led all rushers with 81 yards on 19 carries and a score. Brett Bradford added 50 yards on 15 carries.

Taylor Becton led the defense with six solo tackles, five assists, a sack and an interception. Clay Furrow had three solo tackles and five assists.

This week Clarke Prep stays on the road as they travel to Hope Hull to face Hooper Academy.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
