CCHS 'vball advances to regional tourney

The Clarke County High School Babes volleyball team advanced to the regional tournament this weekend by beating the Lady Bulldogs of Washington County Monday afternoon.

The Babes won 25-20, 25-9 and 25-14.

In the championship match they fell 17-25, 14-25 and 11-25 to Mobile Christian.

In the two matches Nikki Williams served for 27 points with six aces. Carrie Gordon had 11 points, an assist, 11 kills and four digs. Jessica Johnson had 16 points, three aces, three kills and 15 assists. Menetre Martin had 19 points, two aces, four assists and a kill. Jasmine Morris had 12 points, two aces and eight kills. Scheafer Bradford had 12 points and an ace.

The senior players for the Babes were also recognized between matches Monday.

They are Carrie Gordon, Tierra Johnson and Nicki Harvell.

This Saturday Clarke County (19-8) travels across Pea River in the Wiregrass to Elba to play in the regional tournament.

They will play host team Elba at 9 a.m.

They will be joined in the tourney by Mobile Christian, Headland, Geneva, Montgomery Academy, Catholic and Pike County.

"We knew to play in the regionals we would have a long ride ahead of us," Coach Athena Hubbert said. "I am proud of the way the girls played to make it to the regionals. But we expected to be here."

The top four teams from the regional tournament will advance to the sub-state round of play.

These matches will be held at home sites next Thursday.

The play is single elimination and the winner's advance to the state tournament in Pelham on Nov. 1-2.
