Community Calendar $5 and $10 Jewelry Sale at GH Memorial Hospital Grove Hill Memorial Hospital $5 and $10 Jewelry Sale will be presented by Fashion Jewelry Fundraisers Thursday, (today) Oct. 26 from 8 until 5 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 27 from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. New items will include key chains, Alabama and Auburn items, bags, aprons, totes, purses, sunglasses and camo stuff. The sale is sponsored by Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted. The sale will be located in the hospital's lobby.
Clarke County 4-H'ers selling Boston Butts Clarke County 4-H'ers and volunteers will be taking orders for fully cooked Boston Butts through Friday, Oct. 27 . The Boston Butts can be picked up Friday, Nov. 3 at the Alfa Building in Grove Hill in the rear of the building from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m. Price for the Boston Butts is $25 and checks can be made payable to the Clarke County 4-H Support Fund. Okalona Fall Festival Okalona Methodist Protestant Church located north of Grove Hill will host a fall festival Saturday, Oct. 28 beginning at 4 p.m. Fun for all ages, games, cake, hayride and cake walk.

McKinley family reunion Descendants of James Monroe McKinley will be meeting at the Liberty Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Saturday, Oct. 28 . Come early, bring a covered dish and expect to enjoy yourself.
Council's Ghost Walk set The Arts Council of Thomasville will present the third annual Kathryn Tucker Windham "Ghost Walk" Saturday, Oct. 28 at 5 p.m at Clay Park in downtown Thomasville. Enjoy a hayride to historic homes while listening to music, singing and tales of Thomasville's past. Storytellers in period costume will tell tales from the "13 Alabama Ghosts" series. Thomasville native Kathryn Tucker Windham will also be on hand to tell a few tales of her own. There will also be Ghost Walk t-shirts and books by Mrs. Windham available for purchase, a children's costume contest beginning at 6 p.m. and the Dixie River Band will entertain at Clay Park. A children's entertainment area, sponsored by the Thomasville High School Drama Club will feature space jumps, slides and more. Armbands for this special area will be $5. Bring the entire family and enjoy a night celebrating the Southern tradition of storytelling. Price per family: $15. Individual ticket price, $5. Black Belt Treasures Folk Life Festival set
Black Belt Treasures Folk Life Festival will be Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Come and experience the culture of the Black Belt region with regional quilters, potters, basket weavers, textile weavers, musicians and more. Bring a lawn chair and grab lunch from onsite food vendors as you listen to Kathryn Tucker Windham's storytelling at noon. The festival is located at 209 Claiborne Street in historic downtown Camden. Historical Society meets in Thomasville The Clarke County Historical Society will meet Sunday, Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m. at the Champion House in Thomasville. The Champion House, located at the corner of West Front Street and Alabama Avenue across the street from First United Security Bank, was built in 1916 and was restored in recent years. Those attending the meeting will also be able to tour the ALA-Tom R, C & D office. It is located in the restored 1901 building originally constructed for the Farmer's Bank and Trust. Both of these buildings are located in the renovated downtown area of Thomasville.
Bassett Creek's Fall Festival set Bassett Creek Baptist Church will host its annual Fall Festival Sunday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. There will be slides and bouncers, horse and pony rides, hayrides, cotton candy and lots more surprises. There will be a hamburger/hotdog supper at 5 p.m. followed by a brief presentation by pastor Chris Kynard and a cake walk. The evening will conclude with Trunk or Treat as the children go from trunk to trunk filling their bags with candy. Don't miss a second of the fun. VFW meets VFW Post 5106 and its Ladies Auxiliary will have its regular monthly meeting Monday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. All members are urged to come out and see what the VFW is doing.

Syrup making time at Rikard's Mill A restored 19th century cane mill will be in operation at Rikard's Mill, Saturday, Nov. 4 at 9 a.m. between Monroeville and Camden on Highway 265, five miles north of Beatrice. There will be a working grist mill, blacksmith shop and covered bridge giftshop. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors. "A Christmas Memory" read set in Monroeville Tom Key, Atlanta actor and playwright will read Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory," Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in Monroeville, Capote's hometown. This one-hour performance will be held in the courtroom of the Old Courthouse on the historic downtown square. Tickets are $15 for each seat. Seating is limited.
