Don't let fat cats and poor cats turn Jackson into another Phoenix City

Dear Editor,

The Bible says in 2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Are we, God's people that are called by His name, going to let these rich (and trying to get rich) fat cats take what God has given us?

Are we Christians and saints going to let these fat cats and poor cats make a Phoenix City, Alabama out of our "Pine City," Jackson, Alabama?

Or worse yet, are we Christians and saints going to allow another Sodom and Gomorrah to arise in our midst? Look at Genesis 13:10-13 and Genesis 19:23-20:30. Abraham pleaded with God to spare the city if he could find 50, 40, 20, or even 10 righteous people. Sodom was destroyed because the righteous didn't stand up. Truly we need to pray and watch what direction we are headed or we will fall into the same trap as did Sodom.

Why pick on one section of sin? Paul told the Romans in Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Clarke County Democrat published an article, Thursday, August 24, 2006, concerning a big drug bust in Jackson. The "Round-up" resulted in several arrests in the Depot neighborhood. These are our children. We have to speak for them and to them. At present, they can't speak for themselves. We who are saved have to be the ones to reach them, through prayer, and through love.

When Ezekiel was in the valley of the dry bones, God asked him, "Can these bones live?" Ezekiel answered, "Thou knowest." God told Ezekiel to preach to the dry bones and life came back into them. God is still telling us that the "Pine City" can still live. Our "dry bones" can live, if we reach out to them.

We have to tell them:

+the wages of sin is death, but the gift of life is through Jesus Christ

+to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness

+to humble themselves and pray

+to obey His commandments

Then a crown of life is there for them, not only when they leave this life but right here on this earth.
