Thomasville man pleads guilty to felony, firearm possession
Also facing drug charges in 3 counties

Gary Lathan Jones of Thomasville pleaded guilty to felony possession of firearms in U.S. District Court last week.

The charges were made by the Division of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives after a search warrant was executed at Jones' home at Morgan Trailer Park by deputies with the Clarke County Sheriff's Department.

Jones is also facing drug charges in Clarke, Lee and Chambers Counties.

He will likely remain in jail until his sentencing hearing in January 2007.

"When we conduct a search warrant and we find these guns, whether they're stolen or maybe the person has prior convictions and is prohibited from possessing a firearm, we turn these cases over to the ATF. A lot of people think that nothing happens after that, but we are pursuing these cases to the end," said Drug Enforcement Officer Corporal Ron Baggett.
